Linda Billington’s Article
On June 17 of 1994 (which was around the time when the Anchorage School District bought the Polar Theater from Act III), Linda Billington, who is a community editor in the Anchorage Daily News, wrote an article about the Polar Theater. She references quotes from people who have gone to the theater many times, like Ron Crawford, who works in the University of Alaska Anchorage Department of History and Geography. He remembers the old times going to Polar Theater like watching Electric Boogaloo and That’s Dancin. Another person she references is Dave Stroh, how is now on KTVA Channel 11. For ten years, Dave used to be the marketing director for Wometco and Lanthrop. He was the manager for the theater for a long time. Both Linda and the two men agree that the Polar Theater was the hot spot for movie-going back then in Anchorage.
