Please excuse the mess!
I just upgraded the site software and it broke our current theme. I have a bit of tweaking to do and we should be as good as (or better than) new in a couple of days.

Geoff, Kittie:
I spoke with both of you about having the Polaris Business list here on our web site. It would be a place for parents to share their business affiliation. This may be of interest or usefulness to the community. I was thinking that a form with specific fields to enter would be easy and have it sorted apha by business name. Fields could be; Business name, Parent name, parent title, business address, phone number, email, web address, brief comment line. I would like to know which area business are associated with Polaris and be happy to patronize them as such. Of course this is volutary and reviewed by the monitor.
My example: Once Upon A Child, Diana Ede, Owner, 1016 W. Northern Lights Blvd. 99503, 562-8777, ouac@gci.net, ouac.com, We buy and sell gently used kids suff, newborn to youth size 18.
Hey fellow Polarents!
I just upgraded the software driving the Polaris site. Please let me know if you experience problems. The upgrades included a new rev of the Events module — so now we have a summary calendar in the right sidebar. It also includes both search functionality and a block that allows you to filter stories by category.
I’ve also started a new “Handy Links” block. Right now I have just one, but please just let me, Beth Adams or Kitte’ Miller know if you’d like to see others there.
I’ve also taken the liberty to improve the look and feel of the site. I added a new theme that I think is a bit more in keeping with the spirit of the school. If you think it’s too much, let me know. I can always roll us back to something a bit more conservative…
Dear Polaris Parents, Students, Staff and Friends,
What a tremendous beginning to an unforgettable year, a year marked with the advent of a dream come true–our new building. This is a legacy of our hard work and the support of the Anchorage community. The reality of our new building, however, does not end the challenge of how to do a lot with limited funds. More than ever, we need funding for special projects.
Polaris Parent Forum is establishing Polar!s Now to encourage direct monetary tax deductible donations. Many individuals welcome an opportunity to give to our school but will not be the high bidder on an auction item, may not be able to attend the Fall Auction & Carnival, or participate in other fundraisers.
Polar!s Now gives the entire community–families, students, alumni, staff, friends, and businesses–an opportunity to have a meaningful stake in making things happen at Polaris. Broad participation within our community will factor into our appeal for grant applications and additional support from the businesses. Some of you may work for employers who will provide matching contributions to double the value of your own gift.
Current projects awaiting funds are the rock climbing wall estimated to cost $10,000, theater lighting and curtains at $30,000, art display panels at $3000, and musical instruments at $2000. We have long term needs for state of the art technology. Parent Forum also provides substantial funds annually for intensive and opportunity scholarships, enrichment classes, teacher training and material grants, and the much more.
We urge you to give what you can to Polar!s Now and be apart of the Polaris legacy. All donors will be recognized for their gift without reference to the amount of the contribution. And all contributions are tax-deductible since Parent Forum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Thanks for the legacy!

Heya there Polaris website early adopters! Just wanted to let folks know that (inspired by Beth’s list of upcoming events) I’ve set up and configured the Drupal events module. This will allow folks to submit events and have them appear on the public calendar. It’s very roughtly configured this at this point, so things may or may not be fully operational yet. Tomorrow I’ll add Beth’s events as a test.
And I’m doing this in sleep-deprived state with a newborn on my lap, so I’m probably even a bit more error-prone than normal.
You should be able to submit events just like stories. They still need to be reviewed by a moderator. And I know the calendar view is as ugly as sin and doesn’t match the look and feel of the rest of the site. I’ll fix this soon.
Comments and questions are welcome!
