• Share about the Polaris experience at the ASD Alternative Fair Sat Jan 27 in the Boniface Education Center . Sign up on Michelle’s door for a shift 9:30-4.
• Lottery applications are due in the school office by 3 pm on Wed March 14. Remember to apply for your 2007-08 Kindergarteners! Help spread the word that tours are Wednesdays February 7 & 21 and March 7 & 14 at 8:30-10 am.
• Student Op Group starts regular Monday lunch meetings on Jan 29 in Allie’s.
• Parent Forum meets 6:30-8 pm on Tues Jan 30 & Feb 27; childcare available. All are welcome!
• Advisory Board meets in the Library 5-6 pm on Wed Jan 31. All welcome!
• Parents can learn more about the elementary Math Investigations curriculum at Coffee & Conversation 8:30-9:30 am Thurs Feb 1 in the Library.
• The Spaghetti Dinner and Sock Hop will be 6-8 pm Fri Feb 2. $5 each or $20 per family at the door to enjoy this wonderful evening with Marx Brothers Ceasar salad, garlic bread and dessert. Please offer your assistance to Kristen and Kathleen at kdb@ascalaska.net or 677-0508.

• Library News from Cindy Lincoln, our Librarian: During intensives, we had our own intensive review on how to use the library. We discussed the Dewey Decimal System, call numbers, and WebCat, and we played a fun game called “Book Hunt” to practice their skills. During the second week, we learned about how to stay safe around moose. Students had some pretty interesting “moose stories” to tell!

We have some awesome readers at Polaris that have been preparing for the district Battle of the Books competition. Students have been reading and practicing since October and are getting ready to compete at the school and district level. Because we have 2 high school teams (only one team is allowed from each school), there will be a school battle to determine which team goes on to the district competition:

Polaris High School Battle of the Books is scheduled for February 1st at 2:00 pm in the Library. The winning team will go on to represent Polaris at the District Competition on February 7th

Hit the slopes as with the New Vaudeville and Physical Comedy intensive as Polaris K-12 and TBA Theatre join forces for another hilarious physical comedy adventure in YODEL-LAY-HE-HOO!
 
The Abominable Snowman is loose in the Bavarian Alps and there is nothing that the Burgermeister, his wife, the ski patrol, or the guests staying in the quaint village of Alpine Oöps ! can do!
 
YODEL-LAY-HE-HOO plays January 19th & 20th at APU’s Grant Hall.  Performances are scheduled for Friday at 7:00pm and Saturday at 2:00 & 7:00pm.  Tickets are $4 and available at the door.  Let our box office folks know that you’re from Polaris!  Call 677-PLAY(7529) for more information.

• Christina asks that all student work be claimed from the Art Room by Fri Jan 19. James asks that Lost & Found items be claimed by Fri Jan 26.
• 3rd Quarter Registration is Mon Jan 22. Juniors & seniors come 8:30-9:15 only, freshman & sophomores 9:15-10:45, 8th graders 10:45-12 and 7th graders 12:45-3. Consult course catalogs for details. DECA, the student store, seeks new members.

• Seniors meet with Michelle Fri Jan 26 at 11:20 am in the Library for graduation planning. Junior and senior parents are invited to plan decorations & refreshments for the event on Monday May 21 at 7 pm in the Wendy Williamson Auditorium.

• Plan to attend: Parent Forum 6:30-8 pm on Tues Jan 30, Advisory Board 5-6 pm on Wed Jan 31, and Coffee & Conversation 8:30-9:30 am on Thurs Feb 1.
• Parent Forum’s Annual Spaghetti Dinner will be 6-8 pm Fri Feb 2 in the MPR with a Sock Hop in the Gym. $5 per person/$20 per family at the door includes a meal prepared in the Marx Brothers kitchen by Polaris parent and chef Kathleen Johe’. • Brother Francis Shelter needs paper towels, toilet paper, and new & gently used adult clothing. Bring donations to Nurse Patty and she will match each with a nickel.

Welcome back! Burr, it’s cold!!! All elementary students need to bring clothing for outdoor recess (gloves, hats, layers), as lunch clubs are not a choice during intensives. Recess is cancelled only for temp below minus 10F.

• Tour for prospective families is 8:30-10 am Wed Jan 10. To help represent Polaris for a two hour shift at the ASD Alternative Programs Fair on Sat Jan 27 10-4 in the Boniface Center, contact Johansen_Michelle@asdk12.org.
• Winter Intensive classes are Jan 8-19, 2007. Mon Jan 15 is a holiday. Check paperwork from individual intensive teachers as class schedules vary.

• Polaris K-12 Anchorage Waterways Council school business partnership is featured at http://www.asdk12.org/depts/sbp/ in January. Cherie Northon and Kathryn secured a $3000 grant from the Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation to assist in the Little Campbell Creek monitoring project.
• Best Buy gave us a $1500 technology grant thanks to Corey, Judy & Carol.
• Gift certificates worth $11.25 for anything at Kaladi can be purchased for $10 from Mark & the British Isles travelers.
